Chapter 5 - Faye

Steam from the hot springs billowed around her, creating a curtain of heat that made anything farther than three feet or so away impossible to see. That was for the better. Not being able to see the dark cavern walls or the guards standing at attention near the entrance made it a little easier for her to forget that she was still a prisoner, no matter what Kel had made her do.

The water was scalding so close to the source of the spring, but after today, Faye needed to scrub herself raw to make her feel clean again. Everything from being captured, almost assaulted, and chained to a bed made her feel disgusting and lost. Like she needed to wash away all of her sins to come anywhere close to the woman she’d been before earlier that night—the student. The latter had dreamed of making a difference in the future through her puny agricultural engineering projects.

How was she ever going to go back to that life after this?

Would she ever even have a chance to escape and go back to Earth, let alone see her friends and family again?

Predictably, there had been no signal when she’d tried to use her phone after Kel had left her alone in the room. She hadn’t expected to be able to contact the outside world when she was sure in her heart that she was in an entirely different universe from her home. Still, she had held onto that hope as a means of possibly getting out of here without further compromising herself.

Yet seeing the NO SIGNAL notification on the top of her screen had forced her to accept reality. She might never be going back.

And she hated the part of her that didn’t want to leave.

It was an enormous betrayal by her own body and mind that she could ever think of staying here, in this castle where she was being held prisoner by the vampires who had kidnapped her. Yet part of her fondly recalled Kel’s touch—the care he’d taken when he held her in his arms, the methodical way he’d broken down her resistance to him and left every cell in her body begging for his touch.

Faye splashed her shoulders with the hot water, flinching when droplets splattered on her face. She wasn’t supposed to want Kel. She wasn’t supposed to enjoy sleeping with him—she was being held captive. She hadn’t agreed to his demands because she wanted him but because she believed it had been her only means of survival.

But once she’d agreed, and he took his time preparing her for the best sex she’d ever had in her life, and she wasn’t so sure anymore. Kel had been gentle with her, even though he could have done anything he wanted to her, and she wouldn’t have been able to fight back.
